The Nervous System is there to ensure communication and control over the entire body.

It’s composed of:

  • the somatic nervous system - to move the body consciously - and,

  • the automatic nervous system - to ensure unconscious activities happening inside such as like breathing or digestion -

Focusing on the Automatic Nervous System, do you know that our body is always balancing between 2 states: Sympathetic or Parasympathetic?

Fight or Flight

The Sympathetic Nervous System is triggered in stressful or painful situation. It manifests itself by:

Increase of the Heart BeatIncrease of Breath RateIncrease of Blood Pressure

When the Sympathetic nervous system is active, your brain is in its Fight or Flight mode, ready to react, like an animal!

Rest and Digest

On the other hand, in situation where nothing specific is expected the Parasympathetic Nervous System is putting your brain in Rest and Digest mode. Body and Mind activities will tend to slow down in order to save energy for later and concentrate on internal regeneration.

"Meditation makes the entire nervous system go into a field of coherence"

Deepak Chopra
