Definition: Bandhas are energy locks which direct Prana along the Nadis and through the Chakras.
Got it right ?? Let’s detailed this !
Prana is the Live Force associated with breathing. It is neither breath nor air but the energy generating while breathing in and out.
Nadis are all the energy channels existing across the body where the Prana flows. Nadis are often associated with the Nervous System.
Chakras are spinning wheels distributing energy across the body based on physical and emotional need. There are 7 chakras, all of them are located around the spin.
To reformulate the definition above, Bandhas are valves creating pressure to direct the Energy into the correct direction to feel a body need. Hope it makes a little more sense!
If you are still with me, last thing to share, is details around the 3 Bandhas:
Mula Bandha - The core lock, located in the pelvis area, is a physical contraction of a small area between the genitals and the anus. For women this is the muscle triggered when trying to retain from peeing! This is the ROOT lock.
Uddiyana Bandha - The abdominal upward flying lock located 3 fingers bellow the navel that takes your belly toward the spin and up. This is the LIGHT lock.
Jalandhara Bandha -The throat contraction aiming at increasing concentration. This is MIND lock.
