The first class on chakras was impressive. The most interesting so far: there is so much to discover, an entire new world just opened to me! To start talking about chakras and the whole spirituality of yoga, first is to understand Nadis.

Nadis = energy channels carrying pranayama - Spiritual energy aka. Life force

There are 72,000 Nadis in a the Spiritual body. The Hatha yoga concentrates on the 3 main ones:

  • Susumna - Straight channel from the base of the spin (also the base of Kundalini - The dormant spiritual energy) to above the crown of the head. Susumna Nadi only flows when Ida and Pingala are evenly balanced.

  • Ida - This Nadi starts on the left-side of the base of the spin, crosses over the body, goes through the 3rd eyes and ends on the right hand side of the brain. Ida is represented by words such as feminine/emotion/water/calm/intuition.

  • Pingala - It does the exact same travel but opposite to Ida. Ida and Pingala cross over the body several times, on the straight Nadi Susumna. Pingala starts down right and ends up left. Words representing Pingala are masculin/action/fire/logic/heat.

Where Ida and Pingala meet on Susumna, it generates a chakra. There are 6 chakras in the energetic body and a 7th one above the head. The last chakra is only linked to the Susumna Nadis.

Such an interesting new concept that deserved in-depth look!
