The work Yoga first appears in the Vedas, the classic Sanskrit texts.
These texts have been the base to different religions but also to 6 philosophical schools. Two of these schools have generated the modern practice of Yoga: Samkhya and Yoga.
Back to the Vedas - one of major India epic is Mahabharata.
This is where can be found the text Bhagavad Gita, meaning ‘Song of the blessed ones’.
In this part of the story, the main character - Arjun - learns from another character - Krishna- (embodies the Consciousness) that it is important to withdraw yourself to get the bigger picture and take appropriate decision.
“While speaking the words of wisdom, you are mourning to that is not worth of grief.”
Krishna to Arjun
Key themes of Bhagavad Gita:
Bhakti Yoga - Yoga of Devotion
Karma Yoga - Yoga of Action
Jnana Yoga - Yoga of Knowledge
