Vinyasa means "to place in a special way" and therefore in context of yoga, Vinyasa is "Linking movement with the breath".

Vinyasa Flow is a modern style of Yoga based on traditional Ashtanga Yoga but with a free order and range of poses. Main benefit of a Vinyasa practice is to create heat in the body by moving in order to move deeper into the Asanas.

There are 5 main components of Vinyasa Flow Yoga.

  1. Asana = pose

  2. Vinyasa = link or movement in-between pose

  3. Pranayama = Ujjayi "victorious" breath

  4. Bandhas = energy locks for alignment

  5. Drishti = gaze

Each of these ingredients are to be practice together. More easy to say than to do but worth having all of them in mind to reach the true benefits of a Vinyasa practice.

Vinyasa Flow Yoga has always been my preferred practice as there is no limit in the combination of asanas in addition to be a dynamic practice! Be prepare to sweat though!
