Each of us can find a true and unique answer to this. Yoga implies personal analysis.
During my pre-course for YTT, I read The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali commented by Sri Swami Satchidananda. This book made me realized that Yoga is much more than physical practice and balance.
Yoga means "Union" between mind, body and surroundings. It can be defined as the experience of modifying the mind through any physical or mental practice.
To modify your mind, you have to consider than Truth can never be changed and is always the same. Presentation of the Truth will vary, based on perceptions, education, knowledge and thoughts.
To act on your mind, think of it as a full wardrobe. To make space for future decision, you must review and potentially get rid of some of the thinking you have built and stored since you are born.
Meditation is the more efficient way to do it, but the easiest way is through physical practice. This can be running, swimming, anything that will make your mind take a break from its usual activity.
For me, the physical practice of asanas has been the key.
